Our Funding Requirements

Last updated: 12/04/2024

Fundraising is ongoing to support specific development strands.

The aim is to raise £150,000 per annum in order to:

  • Organise four visits of volunteers from schools/universities in the UK to South Africa to develop and extend Bambisanani programmes and projects

  • Expand the ‘Cycling to Success’ programme in collaboration with KwaZulu-Natal Cycling in more rural communities.

  • Expand the Bambisanani International Athletics Challenge for primary schools in both countries and explore other curricula engagement between the schools involved which are driven by sport

  • Support South African schools to develop Indigenous Zulu Games project for UK schools

  • Develop a programme of work with a Special School in South Africa introducing modified sports, dance, music and arts.

  • Support other UK schools/colleges/universities to develop partnerships in South Africa

  • Develop existing university partnerships in both countries to expand the joint training of Physical Education teachers and Sports Coaches

  • Develop a Bambisanani Certificate for primary schools in both countries that promotes sport, leadership, volunteering and global citizenship

  • Develop a Bambisanani Award for secondary schools in both countries that promotes sport, leadership, volunteering and global citizenship

  • Provide university bursaries in South Africa

  • Develop programmes to support literacy and numeracy

  • Extend ICT development and teaching at Mnyakanya High School

  • Explore the possibility of new joint initiatives in collaboration with the British Council, KwaZulu-Natal Department of Sport and Recreation and KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education

  • Continue to work with a range of partners in South Africa in order to build a sports ground for the Mnyakanya community

The Bambisanani Partnership needs to raise significant amounts of money to fund particular development strands from specific fundraising events, enterprise activities and from donations from individuals, community groups and companies.

Key partners in South Africa to achieve the above will be the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education, Department of Sport and Recreation, local Municipality, local and national charities and the British Council.

Yes, our work requires funding but our work is not about charity; it is more important than that. It is about two communities from different parts of the world working together and learning together. My view on charitable giving is always that ‘it is better to give a rod than a fish’. Indeed, a guiding principle of the Bambisanani Partnership is about building capacity and creating a legacy in both communities. Our focus on the education of young people and developing young leaders of the future is a good example of this. Increasingly the Bambisanani Partnership will not fully fund any development but rather seek to ‘lever’ a proportion of the required funding from other parties in South Africa, thus creating additionality and local ownership. If we funded 100% of all our projects it would ultimately be self-defeating, patronising and encourage dependency. We want all our investments to make a difference long term.
